Mice Made Smarter: Developments for Piracetam
by admin on Nov.13, 2009, under General
Scientists at the Medical College of Georgia have created a super-smart lab rat named Hobbie-J that “can remember objects three times longer than her smartest kin… and is better at solving complex tasks, such as traveling through mazes using only partial clues to find rewards—a key method for measuring rat intelligence.” They injected her with genetic material, causing an ”over expression of the gene NR2B, which helps control the rate at which brain cells communicate.” They found that her brain processing time overshadowed that of normal rats and that their research could lead to a treatment or cure for Alzheimers similar to what Piracetam is used for.
The scientist’s sunny outlook for this new treatment could be criticized for the fact that a human application may not be ideal for everyone. The subtle but effective results of Piracetam are useful for everyone including Alzheimers patients, however this application could cause other issues. The researchers noted that perfect memory and being “too-smart” may have its downsides; people forget for a reason. They note that having a perfect memory could be detrimental to our psyche, and cause a nightmare of issues. Therefore, they state that the application of this treatment would likely only be for sufferers of Alzheimers.
If you’re looking for a brain boost, but can’t wait till you have Alzheimers to try this special treatment, give Piracetam a try. While used in the treatment of people with ADHD, and other memory and attention problems, it can be used to give your brain that extra boost that it needs without the harmful side effects of harsh stimulants or the cost of prescription medications.
